This Friday is Moving Day for Eugene Meals on Wheels
FOOD For Lane County will be new home to Eugene service for Seniors.
FOOD For Lane County will begin delivering Meals on Wheels in Eugene from its Bailey Hill Road kitchen on Monday, December 21st. Those who administer the program are moving their offices into the Bailey Hill building on Friday. The program offers nourishing meals and a regular safety check to homebound seniors, aged 60 and older, who need help with meal preparation.

This summer, FFLC assumed operations for the Eugene portion of the program after the local chapter of the American Red Cross transitioned its contract with Senior and Disability Services (a division of Lane Council of Governments) to focus on its mission of disaster preparedness, relief and recovery at home and around the country. FFLC has been delivering meals in Eugene since July 1st. LCOG’s Senior and Disability Services continues to deliver meals in Springfield and six outlying communities. The physical move from the Red Cross to the food bank’s kitchen and offices is the final phase of the six month transition for the program.
FOOD For Lane County was selected to partner with Senior and Disability Services based on its long-standing experience delivering food, operational strength and volunteer base. FFLC has been serving the community for 30 years and has a history of serving older adults through a variety of programs including its Senior Grocery Program. Through this program, FFLC serves 295 people five days a week.
The program is in need of volunteers and would love to hear from people who have a few hours a week to help seniors continue to live independently in their own homes.
