Basketball Champ Sabrina Ionescu Helps Dunk on Hunger

On November 9, FFLC was thrilled to host Sabrina Ionescu, former University of Oregon Women’s Basketball star, 2024 National Championship winner with the WNBA NY Liberty and 2024 US Olympic Gold Medalist, as well as her husband Hroniss Grasu, former UO Duck Football and NFL player. Sabrina and her foundation, the SI20 Foundation, are passionate about giving back to the Lane County community and in particular to youth development.

Sabrina, Hroniss and FFLC’s partners at Market of Choice joined FFLC staff to pack Weekend Snack Packs for kids. Every week, FFLC distributes 600 gallon-size bag of snacks and easy-to-prepare foods to elementary school children so that they have food for the weekend, when they may miss the nutrition provided by school meals.

Sabrina brought her WNBA trophy to the UO Women’s Basketball game against Baylor on November 10, and also encouraged game attendees to bring food donations for FFLC. With her leadership, the game generated 4,398 meals for our community! The Ducks also pulled out an incredible win against Baylor.

We are so grateful to Sabrina and the SI20 Foundation’s support, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Eugene soon!
