FOOD For Lane County mourns the sudden loss of Richard (Rick) Wright. Rick was a Founding Trustee of FOOD For Lane County and was instrumental in the establishment of multiple core elements of our work that continue to this day: Scan-A-Coupon at grocery store registers, and Food Rescue Express, which allows food banks to partner with grocery stores to rescue prepared food and distribute it to people in the community.

As CEO of Market of Choice, Rick was a champion for FOOD For Lane County’s work, and with his leadership, Market of Choice has set the standard for partnership and collaboration. Market of Choice has generated over $2 million in SCAN donations from registers, and has supported FFLC as a sponsor and partner for many events and initiatives. Market of Choice is also one of FOOD For Lane County’s most significant food business donors. In 2024, Market of Choice contributed over 328,000 pounds of food to the community. Rick’s commitment to our work and his and his family’s generosity has changed FOOD For Lane County forever, and has had a deep impact on our service to the community. We offer heartfelt condolences to Rick’s wife Debbie, their children and grandchildren, and the Market of Choice family.
