EUGENE, Ore. – Free lunches are available to children 18 years and younger throughout the summer months through FOOD For Lane County’s Summer Food Program, according to the nonprofit organization.
FFLC staff said that the meals are served by seasonal employees at more than 30 locations throughout Lane County that include parks and community centers. The program operates between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals during the summer break, according to FFLC officials. FFLC staff said that nutrition is a fundamental part of children’s emotional, physical, and mental health-related well-being.

“When kids are out of school for the summer, many families face challenges without access to school breakfasts and lunches,” said Mtima Richardson, FFLC’s youth and family program manager. “Kids require three meals a day, year-round. Hunger doesn’t take a vacation.”
