Strategic Plan
FOOD for Lane County Strategic Plan 2010-2013
For 25 years, FOOD for Lane County has been serving the needs of hungry people in Lane County. As our 2005-09 strategic plan expired, we were experiencing an unexpected national recession, high unemployment rates, and an increase in the homeless population. We took the opportunity to create a new plan that reflects the current realities we are facing as an organization, changes in food supply and resources, the needs of our partner agencies, and the changing demographics of the people we serve. The timeline for this strategic plan was shortened to three years, knowing that the world changes rapidly and only by being a nimble organization can we respond well.
The creation of this strategic plan was a joint effort between FOOD for Lane County staff, the Board of Directors, and partnering organizations. The broad ideas for the plan were sketched out during a facilitated retreat with Board members and the Management Team in summer of 2009. During the following months, we conducted four focus group sessions to solicit input from different stakeholders. The focus groups asked for honest input on FOOD for Lane County’s strengths, weakness, opportunities, and challenges (SWOC). Separate participant groups included the Board of Directors, Management Team, all FFLC staff, and representatives from external partners (such as United Way, Senior & Disabilities Services, and Partner Agencies). Their valuable input was compiled and considered throughout the process; many of the objectives included in this plan are a direct result of these SWOC analyses.
There are four overall goals included in this strategic plan; they relate to food supply, financial health, responsive programs, and internal capacity. The strategies and measurable objectives related to these goals are outlined in appropriate detail. The timeline for completion of all objectives is the end of the strategic plan cycle, June 2013, unless otherwise stated. We will monitor our progress on the plan through regular updates to the Board of Directors. This plan will serve to guide and focus our efforts as we work as a community to achieve our vision of eliminating hunger in Lane County. It may be amended as needed.
GOAL 1: Maintain a food supply that allows FFLC to meet or exceed Feeding America and our annual goals of pounds per person in poverty, and continue to meet the food demands of partner agencies (up to 7 million pounds per year)
GOAL 2: Maintain FFLC’s financial health to support a) programs and services; and b) allow FFLC to maintain current share contribution fee rates
GOAL 3: Provide food distribution programs and services that are responsive to current community needs and changing demographics
GOAL 4: Build FFLC’s internal capacity to keep pace with our continued growth and maturity and retain quality staff
