FOOD for Lane County delivers fresh perishable food each month to residents living in rural Lane County through the Rural Delivery Program.
FOOD for Lane County serves Cottage Grove, Oakridge, Junction City, Goldson/Cheshire, Triangle Lake, Dexter, Creswell, Florence, Lowell and Harrisburg through this program, which benefits an estimated 2,000 households each year. More than 313,000 pounds of food were distributed through the program in 2002-2003.
It can be difficult to obtain fresh, affordable produce in these rural areas. Due to the expense or availability of reliable transportation, driving into Eugene to pick up food at the warehouse can also be a challenge. The Rural Delivery Program allows for more frequent deliveries of perishables to rural areas where we know there is a need.
By providing rural Lane County with direct access to fresh food, FOOD for Lane County can help residents in these communities living on limited budgets stretch their food dollars and supplement emergency food boxes from local pantries.
