Extra Helping

The Extra Helping Program is organized by and for residents of local affordable housing complexes in Eugene and Springfield. The program makes available supplemental groceries that provide families with an extra helping of food to help them stretch limited resources. The program also provides opportunities to work together and build stronger communities.

The Extra Helping Program helps FOOD for Lane County make efficent use of surplus, perishable food, including bread products, fresh produce and frozen foods, by distributing it to those who need it. A monthly newsletter distributed to members provides information on nutrition, recipes and more. Twelve sites in the Eugene/Springfield area participated in the Extra Helping Program in 2002-2003. The program served 670 households representing 1,616 individuals.
