Food Planning in Lane County

On March 6, 2004, FFLC and the Lane County Food Coalition hosted a county-wide Food Planning Summit. This event brought together more than 60 community and government leaders to discuss how a food policy council could make our community more food secure. A food policy council is a governmental or nonprofit advisory body that considers and recommends policies that strengthen local food systems. The council represents the diversity of people involved in the food system, from farmers and processors to retailers, anti-hunger advocates, nutrition experts, institutional food buyers and community planners.

As a result of the summit, a working group was formed to study and make a recommendation for the development of a food policy council in Lane County. FFLC is a strong proponent of proactive food planning efforts because it will make our entire community stronger while helping to reduce hunger.
