Barbara Butzer Joins FOOD for Lane County

Join us in welcoming Barbara Butzer as FOOD for Lane County's new Programs & Services Director. Previously, Barbara was executive director of Northwest Portland Ministries, a nonprofit interfaith coalition of churches and synagogues providing life-sustaining services to seniors and people with disabilities. Barbara will be working with our Gardens Program, Family Dinner Program and Agency Relations staff.

"I'm looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of my new position at FOOD for Lane County," said Barbara. " I’ve already learned that I am working with a team of talented and highly-dedicated professionals, as well as with dozens of volunteers who give straight from their hearts."

Barbara brings with her a wide range of experience in the field of human services. She has researched barriers to healthcare for minority workers, counseled women fleeing domestic violence and consulted on the strategic plan for the new 211 information system in Portland. Her educational training is in anthropology, the study of human strategies for survival. How appropriate for her work in developing food systems!

"I am a strong supporter of 'bottom up' service delivery," added Barbara, "which means I will be striving to always hear from the recipients of FOOD for Lane County’s services. In this way we will ensure that food is reaching hungry people in culturally acceptable ways and through existing, well-functioning community systems. I welcome comments and suggestions on FOOD for Lane County's programs and services. How can we help our families and neighbors to eat well, learn well and live well?
