FOOD for Lane County needs more Scans:
15 days left to raise $10,000!

EUGENE, Ore. (June 15, 2005) -- FOOD for Lane County announced today that the community’s donations, through the Scan-A-Coupon program, total $140,000. The organization is asking everyone for a last push in order to meet its goal of $150,000 and receive a matching grant of $75,000 from Meyer Memorial Trust.

For the fiscal year beginning in July 2005, FOOD for Lane County estimates that direct costs for food distribution will total $850,000. This includes collection, storage and distribution. The combined $225,000 from the Scan program will be used for food distribution.

FOOD for Lane County’s board of directors, staff and volunteers are anxious to touch their goal. If it is reached, the effort will result in more than double the amount of Scan donations from the previous year.

Twelve businesses including Market of Choice and Wells Fargo Bank are displaying the Scan coupons. Countless Lane County residents are making the decision to donate while waiting in line at the grocery store or bank.

FOOD for Lane County annually distributes more than six million pounds of food to feed more than 80,000 Lane County residents, or one in every five people. In addition, nearly one in three Lane County children ate from a FOOD for Lane County food box last year. A network of 20 emergency food pantries distributes the food boxes. FOOD for Lane County partners with more than 100 local agencies and programs to provide meals for hungry Lane County residents.
