Down to Earth Donates 5% of Sales to FFLC Gardens

EUGENE, Oregon (June 19, 2005) -- On Sunday, June 19, Down to Earth Home, Garden & Gift, located at 532 Olive St. in Eugene, will donate 5% of all sales to FOOD for Lane County’s Gardens Program. The Gardens will have an information table set up at the store.

Down to Earth is also a SCAN partner with FOOD for Lane County, so remember to SCAN a coupon while you’re there! If $150,000 is raised by June 30, Meyer Memorial Trust will award FOOD for Lane County an additional $75,000 to be used for hunger relief.

“The FOOD for Lane County Gardens have received a tremendous amount of support over the years from Down to Earth, including donations of seeds, starts and materials, the SCAN program and the 5% of sales days,” said Jen Anonia, FFLC Gardens Program Manager. “We are so grateful to them and to other local businesses that are an integral part of keeping our gardens growing.”

“Down to Earth feels that it is important to support local organizations, such as the FOOD for Lane County Gardens Program, which addresses issues of hunger and self sufficiency,” said Jim Wolter, Down to Earth Retail General Manager. “By donating 5% of sales to this local organization we allow Down to Earth customers and supporters of the Gardens Program to make a similar choice.”

FOOD for Lane County’s mission is to eliminate hunger by creating access to food. This is accomplished by soliciting, collecting, rescuing, growing and preparing food for distribution through a network of 100 member agencies and programs; through public awareness, education and community advocacy; and through programs geared toward improving the ability of low-income families, seniors and children and other challenged populations to obtain an adequate supply of wholesome, nutritious food.
