Six steps to a successful food drive

Follow these six steps to having a successful food and fund drive.

  1. Pick a theme. Get participants excited with a catchy theme, such as “Monster Food Drive,” “Souper Bowl” or “Winter Wondercan.” If you need help with a theme or need ideas, please call Deb McGeorge at (541) 343-2822 or email dmcgeorge@foodforlanecounty.org
  2. Set a date. Pick beginning and ending dates for your drive. Two weeks duration is usually about right.
  3. Set a goal. Ask participants to fill and return paper bags, or have each person donate three to five cans. Or set an organization-wide weight goal you want to achieve.
  4. Order barrels. Contact Deb Buchanan at FOOD for Lane County at (541) 343-2822 or dmcgeorge@foodforlanecounty.org to order barrels.
  5. Collect food. Create incentives. Whoever brings the most food wins a pizza. Have teams compete with each other or with teams from another organization.
  6. Return donation to FOOD for Lane County. Or call Deb Buchanan at (541) 343-2822 to arrange for food and fund pick-up ahead of time.
