Conflict of interest involves activities or associations that interfere or appear to interfere with an employee or board member's exercise of judgment in carrying out assigned position responsibilities. Employees and board members are expected to avoid such activities or associations.
Conflict of interest may arise in many situations. It occurs most often where an employee, board member or members of their family obtain some personal benefit at the expense of FOOD for Lane County. No employee or board member is entitled to personal gain or advantage from any transaction in which he or she is involved on behalf of FOOD for Lane County, directly or indirectly, without open knowledge to the agency and approval of the executive director or board of directors.
If there is any question whether or not a specific act or situation represents or appears to represent a conflict of interest, employees should consult their supervisor, or the executive director.
Any employee or board member who stands to realize a financial gain through engaging in activity directly related to agency work or association with FOOD for Lane County must have prior approval of the executive director or board of directors. Appropriate disciplinary action up to and including discharge may result from a conflict of interest violation.
